Mombasa United Target Strong Start as Abdulhamid Moalim Eyes FKF Premier League Challenge

Mombasa United head coach Abdulhamid Moalim believes the newly promoted side has what it takes to compete with the best in the FKF Premier League next season.

The excitement is already building in Mombasa as the club prepares for its first taste of top-flight football, and new head coach Abdulhamid Moalim is not hiding his ambitions.

Moalim says Mombasa United are putting together a competitive squad capable of challenging for the FKF Premier League title in the 2026/2027 season, although he admits there is still work to be done before the transfer window closes.

“We have a good squad so far, but the window is still open and we have time to get exactly what we want as a team. We need more experience as well,” Moalim told the press, as shared by Citizen Digital.

Moalim ready for his first FKF Premier League challenge

The Tanzanian coach has never managed in the Kenyan Premier League before, but he believes preparation and understanding the changing nature of football will be key to making a successful transition.

“I have never coached the Kenya Premier League, but I have been studying different teams from last season,” he said.

Moalim added that football is constantly evolving and that his focus is on making sure his players are properly prepared for every challenge.

“The best way to approach this situation is to prepare our squad the best way, and our players know what we expect from them,” he added.

The 2026/27 season will therefore provide an interesting opportunity for the coach to prove himself in a new league and for Mombasa United to establish themselves among Kenya’s top clubs.

Experience from Tanzania

Moalim arrives at Mombasa United with valuable experience from across the border.

He joined the club last month after a stint with Tanzanian giants Yanga SC. He has also previously worked with Azam FC and KMC, giving him experience of managing teams competing at a high level.

That background could prove important as Mombasa United adjust to the demands of the FKF Premier League, where the intensity, pressure and quality of opposition will be significantly higher than what the club faced during its promotion campaign.

Tough opening test against Kakamega Homeboyz

Mombasa United will begin their FKF Premier League campaign at home against Kakamega Homeboyz.

It is a challenging opening fixture, but playing in front of their home supporters could give the newcomers the confidence they need to announce themselves in the top flight.
