UDA Tops Kenya’s Political Parties Fund as 48 Parties Get Sh1.2 Billion Allocation

NAIROBI, Kenya — The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has emerged as the biggest beneficiary of Kenya’s Political Parties Fund for the 2026/2027 financial year, receiving nearly Sh550 million.

The allocation was published by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) and covers 48 political parties that have met the legal requirements to receive money from the fund.

UDA will receive Sh549.97 million, followed by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which has been allocated Sh293.78 million.

Jubilee Party comes third with Sh128.86 million, while Wiper Patriotic Front will receive Sh68.82 million.

The Political Parties Fund is intended to support eligible political parties in carrying out their activities and strengthening their operations.

The biggest beneficiaries

Here are the parties receiving the largest allocations:

A number of smaller parties have also qualified, although their allocations are significantly lower.

The People’s Liberation Party will receive Sh7.2 million, while the Devolution Empowerment Party gets Sh13.13 million.

Other beneficiaries include Pamoja African Alliance with Sh10.96 million, The Service Party with Sh10.06 million, Movement for Democracy and Growth with Sh9.34 million and Kenya Union Party with Sh9.06 million.

Why ANC is receiving the money

The allocation to the Amani National Congress (ANC) comes after a significant legal development.

The High Court legally reinstated ANC as an independent, fully registered political party. The ruling effectively nullified its earlier merger and dissolution into President William Ruto’s UDA.

As a result, ANC is included among the parties eligible to receive funds for the 2026/2027 financial year.

Why Gachagua’s DCP missed out

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, is among the parties that will not receive money from the Political Parties Fund this financial year.

According to the eligibility requirements, the party does not currently meet the statutory conditions needed to qualify.

DCP was formed after the 2022 General Election and has not yet contested a general election cycle, which affects its eligibility for the fund.

Roots Party also left out

The Roots Party of Kenya has also not been included in the 2026/2027 allocation.

The party did not meet the required criteria to share in the disbursement for the current financial year.

How will the money be released?

The ORPP says the money will not be released to parties as one lump sum.

Instead, the allocated funds will be disbursed quarterly, depending on when the National Treasury releases the money.

The allocations are therefore expected to provide eligible parties with funding throughout the financial year rather than in a single payment.

What the allocation means

The huge difference between the amounts received by the largest and smallest parties highlights the importance of electoral strength and meeting the statutory requirements for accessing the Political Parties Fund.

With UDA receiving almost Sh550 million and ODM nearly Sh294 million, the two parties account for a substantial share of the funding allocated to political parties.

For smaller parties, however, the allocations are much more modest, with some receiving less than Sh1 million.

The 2026/2027 allocation therefore gives a clear picture of the financial strength available to Kenya’s major political parties as they prepare for the next phase of political activity.
