A fresh leadership crisis has emerged at Football Kenya Federation after nine out of the 14 National Executive Committee (NEC) members reportedly held a meeting and resolved that President Hussein Mohammed should step aside over the ongoing CHAN KSh42 million insurance scandal.

The members also called for NEC member Abdallah Yusuf and Acting CEO Dennis Gicheru to step aside as investigations and accountability demands continue to grow.

According to sources close to the federation, the NEC members believe stepping aside would allow for transparency and proper handling of the matter, which has raised serious concerns within Kenyan football circles.

Vice President McDonald Mariga has reportedly been proposed to take over the leadership role on an interim basis as the federation seeks stability during the crisis.

However, not all NEC members were present during the crucial meeting. Three members—Charles Njagi, Ahmedqadar Mohammed Dabar, and Kenneth Rungu—did not attend, leaving questions about the full consensus within the executive body.

The CHAN insurance scandal involving KSh42 million has sparked widespread debate among football stakeholders, with fans and administrators demanding answers and accountability from the federation’s leadership.

This latest development could mark a major turning point for FKF as pressure mounts on the current administration to restore trust, transparency, and proper governance in Kenyan football.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on whether Hussein Mohammed and the other officials will heed the NEC’s call and whether McDonald Mariga will step in to steady the federation during one of its most challenging moments.
