The Sports Disputes Tribunal has issued a temporary injunction stopping the implementation of the April 24, 2026 resolutions that sought to remove Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed from office.

The tribunal’s decision also suspends actions against Acting CEO Dennis Gicheru and NEC member Abdallah Yusuf, who were targeted alongside Hussein Mohammed over alleged graft claims.

The orders mean that no enforcement of the controversial resolutions can take place until the matter is fully reviewed by the tribunal.

Tribunal Certifies Case as Urgent

The case was certified as urgent and placed before Deputy Chairperson Allan Mola Owinyi, signaling the seriousness of the dispute within Kenya’s football leadership.

According to the tribunal, all parties involved have been directed to exchange relevant documents by April 29, 2026, while formal responses must be filed by May 4, 2026.

This temporary relief gives the current FKF leadership breathing space as the legal battle over the federation’s top office continues.

Hearing Set for May 5

The matter is scheduled to be mentioned on May 5, 2026, through Microsoft Teams, where a three-member panel will provide further directions on the next steps.

The panel set to handle the case will comprise:

  • Allan Mola Owinyi
  • Luke Wamugunda
  • Victor Omwebu

Their decision could have major implications for the future leadership of FKF and the stability of football administration in Kenya.

Background of the Dispute

The April 24 resolutions had proposed the removal of Hussein Mohammed, Dennis Gicheru, and Abdallah Yusuf following allegations of corruption and mismanagement.

The move had sparked major debate within football circles, with Vice President McDonald Mariga being fronted as the possible acting FKF President.

However, with the tribunal now stepping in, the planned leadership changes have been put on hold pending legal determination.

What This Means for FKF

For now, Hussein Mohammed remains in office as FKF President, while Dennis Gicheru and Abdallah Yusuf also retain their positions until the tribunal makes a final ruling.

The decision is expected to intensify political tensions within the federation as both sides prepare for the next hearing.

Kenyan football stakeholders will now wait for May 5, when the tribunal could set the tone for one of the biggest leadership battles in FKF’s recent history.
