A light-hearted moment unfolded in an Eldoret court after a Sierra Leonean woman admitted that love was the reason she overstayed her visa in Kenya.

The woman appeared before a magistrate’s court in Eldoret, where she was charged with being in the country illegally without a valid immigration permit, contrary to the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act.

She pleaded guilty to the offence.

During mitigation, the woman explained to the court that she had originally entered Kenya for a short visit. However, things took an unexpected turn when she fell in love with a Kenyan man, causing her to lose track of time and forget to renew her visa.

According to her, what started as a temporary stay gradually turned into a longer visit because of the relationship, eventually landing her in legal trouble.

The courtroom moment became even more memorable when she pointed out her boyfriend, who was seated in the public gallery.

When asked, the man stood up and openly confirmed their relationship before the court, saying, “Your Honour, I can confirm she is my girlfriend.”

His candid response reportedly left the courtroom amused, with the magistrate and those present sharing in the unexpected romantic twist during what would otherwise have been a routine immigration case.
