The race for promotion to the SportPesa Premier League is reaching boiling point, with only three matches left before the curtain falls on the National Super League (NSL) season.

Migori Youth, Mombasa United and 3K FC have emerged as the leading contenders for the three available promotion slots, setting up a thrilling finish that could go down to the final day.

Migori Youth currently sit at the summit of the table with 74 points after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Mully Children’s Family (MCF) at Awendo Green Stadium on Wednesday. The win was massive for the Migori-based side, who continue to show consistency at the business end of the season.

While Migori celebrated an important victory, their closest challengers failed to make significant gains. Second-placed Mombasa United and third-placed 3K FC played out a tense 0-0 draw at Mbaraki Sports Club, a result that left both sides with mixed feelings.

Mombasa United moved to 72 points, just two behind the leaders, while 3K FC climbed to 70 points. With such a narrow gap separating the top three teams, every remaining fixture now carries huge importance.

Migori Youth still face a difficult run-in, beginning with a clash against Kisumu All Stars before taking on Equity Bank. Their final match of the season could prove decisive as they host fellow promotion contenders 3K FC in what could become a winner-takes-all showdown.

Mombasa United appear to have a slightly favourable fixture list on paper. They will face Luanda Villa, Nzoia Sugar and Naivas FC as they push to return to top-flight football. However, pressure and expectations can often change everything at this stage of the season.

For 3K FC, the challenge remains equally demanding. They must first overcome FC Talanta and Mwatate United before their potentially season-defining trip to Migori Youth on the final day.

As the NSL season heads into its final stretch, fans can expect tension, drama and high-stakes football across the country. One mistake could end a club’s Premier League dream, while one crucial victory could secure a historic promotion.

With only three games remaining, the battle for promotion is far from over — and Kenyan football supporters are in for a thrilling finish.
