Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Friday morning visited 31-year-old Obed Mogunda Somoni at Chiron Hospital in Kisii County, where he is currently receiving specialised orthopedic treatment following an alleged incident of political violence. Somoni had initially been admitted at Hema Hospital, where he spent one week undergoing treatment before doctors referred him to Chiron Hospital for further specialised care. During the visit, Dr. Matiang’i expressed concern over the incident and strongly condemned what he described as unacceptable political violence targeting young people. He warned that such attacks threaten democratic values, weaken public trust, and create fear among citizens who should be free to participate in political processes without intimidation or harm. “Violence has no place in a democratic society. Our young people deserve protection, dignity, and the freedom to express themselves without fear,” Matiang’i stated. He further called on leaders, security agencies, and relevant institutions to ensure justice is served and that the rights of all citizens are protected under the law. According to Matiang’i, respect for the rule of law remains critical in preserving peace and national unity, especially during politically sensitive periods. He also urged authorities to take urgent action against what he termed as growing political intolerance, saying Kenya must reject violence and embrace dialogue, fairness, and constitutional freedoms. The visit comes amid increasing public concern over politically motivated confrontations in different parts of the country, with leaders calling for calm and accountability. As Somoni continues to recover, Matiang’i’s message serves as a strong reminder of the need for peaceful political engagement and the importance of safeguarding democracy for future generations. photo mariga Post navigation Dr. Fred Matiang’i Explains Absence from United Alternative Government Rallies 3 Days to Go: Kenyans Urged to Register Before Mass Voter Registration Deadline
