Residents of Emurua Dikirr Constituency are today, May 14, 2026, casting their votes in a closely watched parliamentary by-election to choose a new Member of Parliament following the tragic death of former area MP Johana Ng’eno.

The by-election has attracted significant political attention, with five candidates cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to battle for the seat.

The candidates in the race are:

  • David Keter, popularly known as “Dollarline,” representing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA)
  • Vincent Rotich of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP)
  • Desma Cherono flying the flag of the Party of National Unity (PNU)
  • Gideon Koech of the National Vision Party (NVP)

The seat became vacant after Johana Ng’eno lost his life in a helicopter crash on February 28, 2026, in Nandi County. His death shocked many across the political divide, especially residents of Emurua Dikirr, where he had served for years and built a strong political presence.

Since early morning, voters have been streaming into polling stations across the constituency, with election officials overseeing the exercise in the four main wards of Mogundo, Kapsasian, Ilkerin, and Olol Masani. Security has also been heightened to ensure a peaceful and smooth voting process.

According to the IEBC, a total of 44,353 registered voters are expected to participate in the exercise across 94 polling stations.

For many locals, today’s by-election is more than just replacing a leader. It is seen as a defining political moment that could shape the future direction of the constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political parties have heavily campaigned in the region over the past few weeks, turning the contest into a major test of influence and grassroots strength. UDA will be keen to defend its dominance in the area, while rival parties hope to cause an upset and gain political ground.

As voting continues throughout the day, all eyes remain on Emurua Dikirr, with residents hopeful for a peaceful election and a leader who will continue championing development, infrastructure, education, and youth empowerment in the constituency.
