Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Rev. Julius Ngari Ndumia, describing the incident as shocking, painful, and deeply disturbing to the Christian community across the country. Rev. Ndumia, who served at the PCEA Tubaga Parish under the Nakuru East Presbytery, was reportedly murdered in what leaders and church members are now calling a mysterious and troubling attack. In an emotional statement, Gachagua sent his condolences to the family of the slain minister, members of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), and Christians across the region. “A Cold-Blooded Murder” According to Gachagua, the killing of a man of God raises serious concerns about the safety of clergy and ordinary citizens in Kenya. He questioned why police had not issued a detailed public statement or made arrests several days after the murder, saying the silence from authorities was causing fear and anxiety among church leaders. “The cold-blooded murder of an anointed servant of God is extremely callous and raises serious questions about security in the country,” he said. The former Deputy President also claimed that PCEA churches and members had recently faced increasing intimidation and insecurity, pointing to previous incidents involving churches in Mwiki and Kariobangi. Growing Fear Among Clergy The murder of Rev. Ndumia has reportedly shaken many clergy members within the PCEA church. Church leaders and worshippers are now expressing fears over their safety, especially for ministers who publicly speak against corruption, injustice, and poor governance. Gachagua questioned whether the slain minister may have been targeted because of his outspoken views on national issues. “Could he have been silenced for speaking against corruption, bad governance, and human rights violations?” he posed. While no official motive has been confirmed by investigators, the remarks have intensified public debate and calls for transparency in the investigation. Calls for Police Action Gachagua urged the Inspector General of Police to immediately address the country and provide updates on the progress of investigations. He further called on security agencies to reassure church leaders and worshippers that their constitutional freedoms, including freedom of worship and expression, will be protected. The former Deputy President also appealed to PCEA church leadership to speak firmly against what he described as continued intimidation and attacks targeting churches. Rising Concern Over Church Security Beyond the murder, concerns are also growing over increased break-ins and theft incidents in churches across Kenya. Gachagua called for urgent intervention from police to stop criminal attacks on places of worship, saying churches should remain safe spaces for prayer, peace, and community support. The death of Rev. Ndumia has sparked widespread grief among Christians, with many now demanding justice and swift investigations into the killing. As the country waits for answers, the tragedy has once again raised difficult questions about security, freedom of expression, and the protection of religious leaders in Kenya.
